Find your flow

How to resolve inner conflicts and find your own personal flow

Do you know the feeling when your gut already knows what you want - and your head gives you a thousand reasons why it's not a good idea?

This inner dialogue can be exhausting.

But this is precisely where a great opportunity lies: when head and gut come into harmony, flow is created - a state of lightness and clarity.

I invite you to find your own flow and feel more lightness and joie de vivre in your life.

The essence

9 steps to more flow and lightness

  • Make a note: In which areas of your life are your head and gut not in harmony?
  • Open up the dialogue and ask your head and gut separately. You can find guiding questions for these „interviews“ in the article.
  • Take what your head and gut (or heart) say without judgement.
  • If your head formulates fears, ask yourself whether they are real or rather projections from what you have already experienced.
  • If they are projections, make the decision to judge the situation from the now and feel what that does to the impulse your gut is sending you. Is it getting bigger? Are more details or paths emerging? Take what you are given.
  • Make a decision about which path you want to take and become aware of the resources that will support you on this path.
  • Take a first step in the confidence that you will then look at the situation again. In this way, a supposedly unmanageable change becomes a path of several small steps.
  • Recognise yourself for your courage.
  • Feel what changes in your life when you make more and more decisions from your gut or heart.

Step 1 Recognising imbalances between head and gut

The first step begins with a simple question: In which areas of your life is there tension between your head and your gut? Where does your gut want to change, but your head lists the risks and recommends that you leave everything as it is?.

To get to the bottom of this question, I invite you to do the following exercise:

Exercise: Let your stomach speak

  • Take a post-it pad.
  • Write down everything your gut tells you about the question. Without judgement, without filters.
  • Your head can take a break during this exercise.

Completely different topics may arise, e.g:

  • Family time
  • Time with friends
  • Sports workload
  • New job
  • Contact with parents
  • Couple time
  • Renovation
  • Communication in the team

Maybe it's something completely different for you. The important thing is to follow your instincts.

Step 2: Open the dialogue

Choose the post-it that is most prominent. Where would it be particularly valuable to create harmony between head and gut?

Exercise: Questioning your head and gut

Let's take the area of „contact with parents“ as an example.

Questions to the stomach:

  • What state are you, Bauch, aiming for in this area?
  • Why do you think this state is desirable?
  • From your point of view, what potential would this open up in my life if I had reached this state?

When answering question 2, also pay attention to how your body feels: is your breath getting deeper, your chest wider, do you feel warmth? Be aware of these signals.

Questions to the head:

  • When you, Kopf, read these answers, what worries and fears arise in you?
  • What is the worst thing that can happen from your point of view when I take a first step in the new direction?
  • On a scale from 0 (not at all) to 10 (strongly) how much does this step jeopardise my existence?
  • What should the first step be to rule out any threat to the company's existence? and open up the opportunity for new potential?

Perhaps the first step is to simply ask the parents: „How are you?“ - and listen with an open heart. No more. Then consciously feel: How does it feel in your head and stomach?

Step 3: Your personalised path

The approach described in this article should serve as an impulse for you to find your own way to create a balance between your head and your gut.

Of course, you can work on each of your post-its according to this procedure. However, you may also come up with your own questions or methods that bring you closer to your flow. Stay curious and trust yourself and your intuition.

Conclusion: Let it Flow

The head and the gut are two instances of our body that are sometimes not in harmony. The belly or heart is open to new things and the head is the keeper of the old and familiar. As soon as you consciously invite your head and stomach to enter into a dialogue, you will recognise the patterns that lie behind the thoughts of the head. Very often it's about fears.

As a moderator between your head and your gut, you adopt a neutral stance that allows you to look at these patterns from a distance. Remain non-judgemental and appreciative - just as an experienced moderator would do.

This allows what is to show itself. And in this showing lies the first step for the change towards more balance - towards more belly.

If you regularly engage in dialogue between your head and your gut, you will notice that decisions become easier, tensions are released and your life flows according to your purpose and your gut, or rather your heart, becomes more present in your life. And with your heart comes more lightness and joie de vivre.

With this in mind: Let it flow!
