Our body - the key to personal development and growth processes

From Sabine Walter

8 min.

We humans find it difficult to accept change as the only constant in life. We are „creatures of habit“ and love rituals and familiar structures. For many people, change is something unpleasant, sometimes even threatening.

In this article, I would like to invite you to invite change into your life and open yourself up to new things.

I will also show you what role your body plays in this process and how you can use it to anchor change as a natural constant in your life.

The essence

Spring-cleaning your own system as a prerequisite for more enthusiasm for change

  • I invite you to accept change as a constant part of your life.
  • This acceptance, on a mental and emotional level, is the prerequisite for your body to also open up to change and to embrace change more and more as a matter of course.
  • In order for it to do this, it needs a little „spring cleaning“ in the body's own system.
  • Therefore, transform your cell memory bit by bit, e.g. with the instructions below.
  • Pay attention to the direction of your thoughts and be aware of their power.
  • Define concrete steps whose results are manageable for you.
  • Trust that life will work for you if your thoughts are aligned accordingly.
  • Change - in other words, the path to greater enthusiasm for change - is a process. So know that: If it's not good yet, it's not the end.
  • Celebrate your successes and thank yourself for having the courage to accept change as a constant in your life and to align your body accordingly.

Change as a natural constant in our lives

Whether we like it or not, we will not be able to escape a basic law of the universe: Permanent change.

Admittedly: Matter is more sluggish than free-flowing energy and so change has tended to happen at a more moderate pace in recent decades. However, it has been clear for some years now that the speed of change is increasing and the intensity of the things that are changing is also growing.

The more we accept this new reality and the more we open up to change and embrace it, the easier it feels to change. Because wherever there is resistance, there is friction and therefore pain. Pain of change.

One reason for this pain of change lies in our body.

Our body perceives change as a threat

Our body takes a resource-saving approach. Its system is designed for consistency. Consistency and tried-and-tested processes allow it to run on „autopilot“. As we know from driving a car, this costs less energy.

For our body, every change is therefore a departure from „autopilot“ and leads to irritation. As our head cannot fully assess what is new, it first sends out an alarm.

This signal sends the body into survival mode. The reptilian brain takes over and we are limited to three reflexes: Attack, freeze, flee.

However, these reactions are of little help when it comes to surfing the wave of change and maintaining our power to act and shape things.

It is therefore important to make our bodies fit for this new reality of permanent change - just like in the gym.

Training centre „Joy of change“

Two questions take centre stage in this fitness studio:

  • How do you communicate to your body that it is safe outside your comfort zone?
  • What role do your thoughts play in this?

Let's look at both questions in detail.

How do you communicate to your body that it is safe outside your comfort zone?

Our body has a cellular memory. All our experiences of pain are stored in this memory - physical, emotional and psychological. This means that the cell memory contains thoughts, feelings and physical sensations of all experiences in which we have consciously or unconsciously suffered trauma, i.e. emotions were not able to flow freely.

Example

When Maja started nursery at the age of three, he cried every morning. Her parents never took enough time until the last tear had dried up and the process of saying goodbye was over. Sometimes they even reacted with incomprehension or annoyance: „Maja, don't be such a pain in the arse“, „Maja, not again. I have to go to work.“

The emotion of grief that Maja felt at that moment could not fully flow in that moment. As a result, a little sadness remained each time and was stored in the cell memory together with thoughts such as: „I am not being comforted“, „When I cry, my parents are annoyed“ or „Kindergarten is no fun“, and physical sensations such as pressure on the chest or abdominal pain.

If these experiences have not yet been processed and erased from the cell memory, they can hinder Maja in dealing with change.

Using this example, you can see that the first part of spring cleaning is about deleting old experiences of pain from the cells by lovingly recognising and saying goodbye to these experiences.

The photo album exercise that I described in the article „Find your flow“ describe. However, you can also use the following procedure to transform the cell memory:

Instructions: Transformation of the cell memory

  • Notice which parts of your body tense up or send unpleasant symptoms when changes are about to take place in your life.
  • Travel into these cells with your attention and notice what emotions these cells hold for you. Is it sadness, powerlessness, anger, fear?
  • Invite the cells to release these emotions. You can imagine that the cells open with a left turn, i.e. an anti-clockwise turn, and the emotion flows out. Observe the process like a cinema audience watching the film, turned towards you but not involved. You may also feel the emotion flowing again, with tears rolling or your body wanting to make certain movements. Allow it to happen.
  • When all the emotions have flowed, invite new energy into these cells - depending on what you need in your current change situation. Is it courage, joy, lightness? Join this process and notice how your body reacts to this new quality of energy. Does it become wider, softer, warmer? Does it feel lighter and happier? Even if you don't feel anything, that's okay too. Trust that the change is happening.
  • Let us now turn to the second question of the training centre.

The role of your thoughts in change processes

Our thoughts are powerful. They create energy fields and contribute to the creation of matter. We can utilise this for ourselves or - if we are careless with our thoughts - life reflects back to us what we do not want. (Murphy's Law)

    Example

Maja has made the decision to reduce her fear of change. She wants to break new ground - change careers, maybe even look for a new flat.

The pain she experienced in kindergarten has changed her and since then she has also felt a greater curiosity about the unknown in life.

Nevertheless, she lies awake at night and thinks through all scenarios, from the ideal situation to the worst case. And she devotes a lot of time to this scenario in particular. In the morning, she even makes a note of all the risks and negative points.

This gives Maja strength to this part of her thoughts. The risks and negative points are focussed on. The corresponding energy field grows and if it is dense enough, Maja will have exactly this experience in life. She has practically wished for the worst-case scenario.

At this point, it is important for me to say that it is not a question of fading out risks or suppressing fears and worries. It's about making a distinction:

    • What is the current situation?
    • And which thoughts result from projections of the past and are therefore part of the still untidy cellular memory?

So if worries and fears creep into your nightly thought processes, notice which emotions are associated with them, think about where you have experienced something like this before and move your attention to the part of your body where this experience is stored. Invite these cells to release these energies too.

    Personal development is a journey

I know from my own experience that this cleansing and the associated development process can take years. It feels like peeling an onion - skin by skin, until you get to the centre.

If you feel that you don't want to go through this process or stages of it alone, then book your coaching with me.
